Hi @Rocky1971,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 6962 printer has suddenly started prompting for a username and password, which can happen if it was accidentally reset, firmware was updated, or security settings were changed.
Here are steps you can take to resolve the issue:
Try Default Credentials
If you’ve never set up a username or password for your printer, it might be using the default settings:
- Username: admin
- Password: (leave blank)
Check the Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)
You can access the printer’s settings using a web browser:
- Find the printer’s IP address: Print a network configuration page from your printer’s control panel.
- Access the EWS: Open a web browser and enter the IP address into the address bar.
- Login: Use the default username and password as mentioned above (admin and leave password blank).
Factory Reset the Printer
If you’re unable to log in, performing a factory reset will remove any custom settings, including passwords:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings or Tools.
- Look for Restore Defaults or Restore Network Defaults and confirm.
- This will reset the printer, and you can try setting it up again.
HP Smart App
If your printer is connected to the HP Smart app, you might be able to reset or manage login credentials through the app:
- Open the HP Smart app on your phone or computer.
- Add the printer and navigate to the Advanced Settings section.
- Check for security settings where you can reset or update login credentials.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
