HP (or Microsoft) really needs to fix the problem of printers with a secondary 4x6in. photo tray printing from the main tray. When right-clicking on a pic and trying to print, the generic program, simply called "Print Pictures" in the top left-hand corner, does not give an option to choose which tray you want to use along with choice of printer, paper size, quality, etc...

 

It should have a drop-down selection to choose which tray you want to print from. If the printer does not have a photo tray, the photo tray option should be greyed out... obviously. There is plenty of room to add an easy "Tray" option somewhere in the main page of the program. Perhaps, next to the "Fit picture to frame" option.

 

But even if you choose 4x6in. in the paper size selection, it still prints in the main tray on full-size letter paper, just in 4x6 inches and NOT on the 4x6in. photo paper in the top photo tray! Grr...

 

And when going to the "Options" option in the bottom right-hand corner, those options are very confusing even for me, much less for those who are not computer-savvy. Even then, I have a hard time getting the printer to work right.

 

This needs to be fixed with the next update.

 

Another weird bug is that it has two options to print from:  HP ENVY 5540 and HP ENVY 5540 (NETWORK). This one is really weird because only one will work, but it switches which one works all. the. time.

 

Why are printers so hard to work with?!

Try this to fix both the issues:

 

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

 

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

 

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Did what you suggested and it didn't work.

 

From the Print Pictures Wizard, I want it to *automatically* print 4x6 pictures from the photo tray (because main trays are a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SIZE) and print 8.5x11 documents from the main tray.

 

Is there any way to assign 4x6 prints to the photo tray and 8.5x11 prints to the main tray?

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, but they didn't work.

 

I give up.

I just think that it would be best if you added an extra option in the Print Pictures Wizard program to choose which tray to use in the main page, instead of having to go to the confusing advanced options.
