I have a printer within my organisation that prints an extra page. The printer is used to print packing lists and logistics paperwork from SAP, the extra page is printed first and only contains the users SAP details and thats it.

I believed it to be the print banner, however, I have attended the physical printer and also looked at its settings and print banner was set to no.

We are wasting so much paper. Please can someone advise?

@LGCN-IT, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing, where an extra page prints containing only the user's SAP details, is commonly related to SAP's internal print configuration rather than the printer itself. Since you've already confirmed that the Print Banner setting is disabled on the printer, the next steps involve checking SAP and driver settings.

Steps to Resolve the Extra Page Issue:

Check SAP Output Configuration

SAP can be configured to include a cover page or user info page. Here's how to check:

  • Go to SPAD (SAP Spool Administration).
  • Select Output Devices.
  • Locate the printer in question and click Change.
  • Look for the "No Cover Page" or "Suppress Cover Page" option and ensure it is enabled.
  • Save the changes and test the print again.

Review SAP User Defaults

Sometimes, individual user settings can override global printer settings:

  • Go to transaction SU01.
  • Enter the affected user's ID.
  • Check the Defaults tab.
  • Look for any custom output settings that might be triggering the extra page.

Driver Settings on Print Server or Client

If the printer is shared via a print server or installed locally:

  • Open Devices and Printers on the PC/server.
  • Right-click the printer > Printer Properties > Advanced tab.
  • Click Printing Defaults or Preferences.
  • Look for any banner page, separator page, or cover page settings and disable them.

Disable Separator Page (Windows Print Server)

If using a Windows print server:

  • Open Print Management (printmanagement.msc).
  • Expand Printers, right-click the printer > Properties.
  • Go to the Advanced tab > click Separator Page.
  • If a file is listed (e.g., sepfile.sep), click Cancel to remove it.

Firmware and Driver Update

Ensure the printer firmware and drivers are up to date. You can find the latest updates here: Official HP® Support

Test After Changes

After applying the above changes, print a test document from SAP and confirm whether the extra page is still printed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
