@Bobgparkin, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble printing documents from your mobile phone because your HP Envy Inspire inkjet printer is stuck in photo mode. Let's work through this together to get your printer back to normal operation.

Restart Printer and Mobile Device

  • Power off your printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Restart your mobile phone.
  • After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in and power it on.

Check the Print Settings on Your Mobile Device

If you're using the HP Smart app:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your phone.
  • Tap on your printer.
  • Tap Print Documents instead of Print Photos.
  • Select a document (PDF or Word) and try printing again.

If you're using Apple AirPrint or Google Print:

  • Make sure you're selecting a document file, not an image.
  • Tap the Share icon > Print > Select your HP printer.

Clear Photo Mode Defaults (if stuck)

Sometimes the printer defaults to photo mode if the last job was a photo. To reset:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Preferences > Restore Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset. This will not delete your Wi-Fi settings but will reset print preferences.

Update Firmware and HP Smart App

  • Ensure your HP Smart app is up to date from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Update your printer firmware via the HP Smart app:
    • Open the app > Tap your printer > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.

Reinstall the HP Smart App (if issue persists)

  • Uninstall the HP Smart app.
  • Restart your phone.
  • Reinstall the app and re-add your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
