Hi George,

Try following Microdoft Fixit below and see if that may help in any way:

http://aka.ms/diag_devicec

Also try following the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting Fix Printing and see:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe

If any of those do not make any difference try setting an alternate driver as following:

  1. From the Control Panel select Devices and Printers and press Add a Printer.
  2. Click the printer that I want isn't listed.
  3. Select a Local printer or a manual network printer.
  4. Keep the port a LPT1 and press Next.
  5. Select HP from the right pane
  6. Select the HP Deskjet 6520 from the left pane
  7. Follow the steps to complete the wizard.
  8. Right click the HP Officejet 5740 printer and select Printer Properties, within the Ports tab take a note of the used port and close that dialog.
  9. Right click the HP Deskjet 6520 printer and select Printer Properties, within the Ports tab check the same port as used by the original printer.

Apply the changes and try printing with the newly added print queue, may you see any difference?

Thanks again for your efforts Shlomil,

Befor your note, I have performed those first two steps including the  HP Print and Scan Doctor. I did get different results this time!!!, but still didn't work. I usually got in indicaton that the port needed a fix, then the "Doctor" would indicate that it fixed it. But no print.

This time, I got good results right-off-the-bat, but still the printer didn't print.

I tried your third suggestion, but no luck there either.

I have noticed that MS has been sending out windows 10 updates.

But, still no luck.

So, I'm still planning to tinker a bit more, maybe Microsoft will send out a fix?

Luckliy, I'm almost paperless in my work, so I can manage for a  few more days before I go crazy without hardcopy.

HP Officejet 5744 Will not print from PC (Windows 10) The following solution worked!

For three weeks I tried all of the good suggestions in this forum but this last one worked.

So, not sure it will work for everyone because it could have been a combination of all my attempts to fix. But this last easy clue fixed the problem.

I give credit to ShlomiL in his ‎10-14-2017 his HP Support Forum: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Cannot-install-DeskJet-3630-on-clean-rein...

I used only a portion of his instructions:

  1. Uninstall the HP Software and Drivers from your PC
  2. Press and hold the Windows key and press key “R” to launch Run menu
  3. Type “services.msc” and left click “OK” to open Services.
  4. Scroll to locate name “Print Spooler” and left click on the name.
  5. Stop the service by left click on word “Stop”
  6. Using Windows File Explorer browse to c:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers
  7. Rename folder “W32X86” to “W32x86.old”
  8. Rename folder “x64” to “x64.old”
  9. Restart computer.
  10. Reinstall Full Web Pack feature software from, the HP Support website. I used the file for my specific device, OfficeJet 5740 {OJ5740_Full_WebPack_40.11.1135}

The quickest way to solve this issue is download old version of printer driver. I have this issue with my laptop running Windows 10 64bit and printer HP LaserJet M402-403. I just change the driver catalogue and use driver of HP LaserJet M400-M401 and it works fine.
