Hi @NEMATOLOGY,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to set up an HP LaserJet 1000 series printer on Windows 7 (32-bit) can be a bit tricky since this printer model is quite old and may not have direct support for newer operating systems. However, you can still set it up by following these steps:

Step 1: Download the Printer Driver

HP does not provide an official driver for the LaserJet 1000 series on Windows 7. Instead, you'll need to use a workaround by installing a generic driver.

  1. Download the Universal Print Driver (UPD):
    • Go to the HP Universal Print Driver page.
    • Choose the PCL5 version, which is more likely to be compatible with older printers.
    • Download the "HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL5 (32-bit)" version.

Step 2: Install the Driver

Install the Driver:

  • Run the downloaded driver file.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to extract the files.
  • The installer will start; choose "Traditional Mode" if prompted.

Add the Printer:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Click Add a printer.
  • Select Add a local printer.
  • Choose Use an existing port and select LPT1: (Printer Port) (or the appropriate port if connected via USB).
  • Click Next.
  • When prompted to install the printer driver, click Have Disk... and navigate to the folder where you extracted the Universal Print Driver files.
  • Select the .inf file that matches your printer model and click Open.
  • Follow the rest of the installation prompts.

Step 3: Test the Printer

  1. Test Print:
    • Once the installation is complete, try printing a test page.
    • Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Printer Properties.
    • Click Print Test Page to ensure that everything is working correctly.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • USB Connection: If the printer is connected via USB, make sure that the USB port is working and that the cable is in good condition.
  • Compatibility Mode: If you encounter issues, try running the driver setup file in Windows XP Compatibility Mode. Right-click the setup file > Properties > Compatibility tab > Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
