I can print from my phone, but not from my computer. I tried resetting everything. I made sure both are on the same wifi. On my laptop, the printing status shows as 'unknown.' On my HP Smart app on my laptop, it shows that printer is online. I tried to print from my computer and also from the HP Smart app.. none are working. Please help 🙂

Hi @Sagiggy64,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for the clear explanation 😊! Since your HP printer prints from your phone but not from your computer, and the HP Smart app shows the printer online, yet the print status is "unknown", here’s a step-by-step guide to fix it:
1. Restart Print Spooler Service
Sometimes Windows loses connection with the printer service.
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and choose Restart.
- Try printing again.
2. Remove and Reinstall the Printer
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
- Click your printer > Remove
- Then click Add a printer or scanner and let Windows detect it again.
3. Check Printer Port and Driver
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
- Right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Ports
- Make sure it's using a WSD, TCP/IP, or USB port (not a disconnected one).
- Under Advanced, make sure the correct HP driver is selected (not “Generic”).
4. Reinstall HP Smart App
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from your computer.
- Download the latest version from: 👉 HP Smart - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store
- Re-add your printer and try printing from the app.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

First.. thank you for the detailed response.
I followed all of the steps, and once i reinstalled the printer it now is showing 'driver is unavailable' in control panel.
Here are notes about step 3:
3. Check Printer Port and Driver
- Make sure it's using a WSD, TCP/IP, or USB port (not a disconnected one). *****My port shows LPT:1 Printer Port
- Under Advanced, make sure the correct HP driver is selected (not “Generic”). *** shows spool folder: with C:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS
