HP LaserJet M140we
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, my printer is not allowing me to use it and it's been asking me to "check my HP account" (It's in Spanish but I figured I should ask in English, as that's the language of the HP support website).

I have logged in to HP with my account and have been trying to register/find my printer, but it's not working. I introduced the codes manually as well, but it's always giving me an error whenever I enter the product number. How can I even know what's wrong with my printer or account, when it's not being recognized within the website?

I know I'm writing down the correct numbers as those are the numbers that show up within the HP Smart application. I go to "Printer information" and it's all right there, serial number and product number. What can I do? I'd just like to know what's the issue and if it's related to my printer or my account.

I tried contacting support but they do not allow you to reach anyone if your serial number doesn't work. So I can't contact support either. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi @BettyVarnero

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP LaserJet M140we printer is asking you to "check your HP account," and you're having trouble registering or finding your printer in your HP account, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Verify Account Credentials:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct HP account credentials. Double-check your login details to avoid any errors.

Check Email Verification:

  • Make sure that your HP account is verified. Sometimes an unverified account might cause issues with device registration.

HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart App from the Microsoft Store if you haven't already. The app can help in setting up your printer and linking it to your HP account effectively.
  • Log in to your HP account through the app and attempt to add your printer by following the prompts for printer setup and registration.

Update Printer Firmware and Software:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. You can check for updates via the HP support website.
  • Updates might resolve communication or registration issues.

Network Connection:

  • Check your network connection to ensure that both your printer and computer are connected to the same network.

Factory Reset:

  • Consider performing a factory reset of your printer, which might resolve any misconfigurations affecting account linking.
  • Refer to your printer's user manual or the HP support website for guidance on performing a factory reset.

Clear Browser Cache:

  • If accessing your HP account through a web browser, try clearing your browser cache or try a different browser to ensure there are no caching issues interfering with account registration.

Following these steps should help in resolving the registration issue between your HP LaserJet M140we printer and HP account.
