macOS 12.0 Monterey

I run latest Macos - Sonoma 14.

My HP8610 underwent a latest upgrade.
I can command the printer from laptop using HP Smart - therefore connectivity working
I send a file to be printed. The Macos Print Centre app can see the file in the queue but does not print - status is "waiting". I can un-pause and the system tries to print but simply reverts back to "waiting".
I have another Mac running MacOS 10 (Big Sur) and it has no issue printing. Is the latest HP Printer software incompatible with Sonoma 14?

Hi @EBmal,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your issue could stem from incompatibility between the HP printer software and macOS Sonoma (14). Here's how to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue.

Check Printer Compatibility:

  • Confirm if the HP OfficeJet 8610 is officially supported on macOS Sonoma. Visit the HP support page and look for a list of compatible printers with macOS 14.

Reset Printing System:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click or Control-click in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  • Add the printer again using the + button.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Check if newer printer drivers are available:
    • Open HP Easy Start or visit the HP Software & Driver Downloads page.
    • Download and install the latest drivers/software for macOS Sonoma.

Use AirPrint Instead:

  • Remove the printer from Printers & Scanners and re-add it using AirPrint:
    • Select the printer and choose AirPrint instead of HP drivers under Use.

Test with Generic Driver:

  • Add the printer manually but use the Generic PostScript Printer or Generic PCL Printer option. This can sometimes bypass compatibility issues.

Check Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure the printer firmware is up to date. Update it via the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.

Disable Pause on Errors:

  • In Print Queue, uncheck Pause Printing in the settings. This can sometimes cause jobs to halt without clear reasons.

Verify File Formats:

  • Ensure the file type you're printing is supported and not causing issues. PDFs and simple documents (like text files) are good for testing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
