I purchased my new printer today (Nov 3rd) and the warranty says I only have 9 months and 4 days.

That is because HP database warranty start date is calculated from devices serial number, the HP doesn't know when you bought your HP device, and gives the customers to dispute warranty with proof of purchase.

I will add that if you register your purchase the warranty dates will be properly updated as well.
