I've had one issue after another with this printer since purchasing. For the longest time, it told me that I hadn't installed a genuine HP color cartridge (I had), so wouldn't allow me to print. Most recently, I was trying to solve another issue by uninstalling and reinstalling it. However, when I go to the driver site for HP Office Jet 4655, instead of a driver download it sends me to HP Smart. However, I don't see any driver available there? It tells me my Printer is installed, connected, configured, ready, no firmware updates available.

I can print a test page from HP Smart. But if I try to print in Word, off the internet, etc, it says "Driver Unavailable." I don't see anywhere within HP Smart that a driver is available for download. Please help! Thank you.

@KD509, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us try these steps:

Uninstall the HP Smart app.

Perform a clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the PC.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your computer.

Thank you. I did all steps in order and went to print in Word. The printer is re-installed and says "Ready".

When I press print, it says Status: Error - Printing

The firmware says "Up-to-date."

When I press "Run the troubleshooter" it says "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem."

We've been able to print from a cell phone throughout this time (though the layout doesn't come over correctly), but still not from the computer. Are there any other steps?

THank you.

Thanks for replying!

Uninstall the printer software and try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you -

After uninstalling and adding the printer through Windows, it launched HP Smart.

However, it never took me to a page where it prompted for the drivers, or gave ma n option to select "Windows Update".

When I go to Windows Update in setting, it doesn't show anything regarding a printer.

When I open Printers & scanners, it shows my printer but says "Driver is unavailable."

Thank you

@KD509

Follow the steps below-

1.  Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2.  Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3.   elect “Add a printer or scanner“.

4.  Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5.   Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6.   select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7.  Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8.  Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
