Pretty much what the subject says.
It won't print from Word or Adobe. I tried exporting the letter from Word to Adobe and exporting it to Word PDF and it doesn't work.
There is NOTHING wrong with the printer - it prints test pages and printed a screenshot/photo.
I have the HP Smart app which is proving useless. It keeps directing me to "Help" which is useless. I'm trying to download a driver in the hope that might work.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi @Dianamoon,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Your printer seems to have a mind of its own—happily printing test pages and images but ghosting Word and Adobe documents like a bad first date! That’s frustrating, especially when HP Smart seems more like HP Not-So-Smart right now. Let’s troubleshoot this and get your documents flowing smoothly again.
Set the Printer as Default
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Find HP DeskJet 4155e, right-click, and select Set as Default Printer.
- Try printing again.
Clear Print Queue
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
- Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click, and select Stop.
- Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files inside.
- Go back to Print Spooler, right-click, and select Start.
- Try printing again.
Update or Reinstall HP Printer Driver
- Uninstall Old Drivers:
- Open Control Panel > Programs & Features.
- Find HP DeskJet 4155e Driver and uninstall it.
- Restart your computer.
- Reinstall the Latest Driver:
- Download the latest driver from HP’s official site.
- Install it and restart your PC.
Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP Support.
- Run it and let it detect issues.
- Follow on-screen instructions to fix any problems.

Check Printing Preferences
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click HP DeskJet 4155e > Select Printer Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab and uncheck "Enable advanced printing features."
- Click Apply and OK.
- Try printing again.
Try Printing as Image (For PDFs)
If the issue is only with Adobe PDFs:
- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Click File > Print.
- Click Advanced.
- Check Print as Image.
- Click OK and print.
Use HP Smart for Direct Printing
- Open HP Smart.
- Click on Print Documents.
- Upload your Word/PDF file and try printing from there.
If a fresh driver doesn’t do the trick, don’t worry, we’ve got more tools in the toolbox. Let me know how it goes, and we’ll keep pushing until your printer remembers how to take commands properly! 🚀
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Check Printing Preferences
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click HP DeskJet 4155e > Select Printer Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab and uncheck "Enable advanced printing features."
- Click Apply and OK.
- Try printing again.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS. PLEASE SEE SCREENSHOT. IT DOESN'T HAVE THAT OPTION.
Use HP Smart for Direct Printing
- Open HP Smart.
- Click on Print Documents.
- Upload your Word/PDF file and try printing from there.
I CANNOT USE HP SMART BECAUSE IT DOESN'T DETECT WORD OR EXCEL ONLY PDFS.
There is clearly a problem communicating between MS Office and the HP Printer. I can print JPGS and PDFs.

Hi @Dianamoon,
Thank you for the response,
Try the following steps:
Try Printing from Another Application
- Open a PDF file and try printing it.
- Try Notepad: Open Notepad, type some text, and print.
- If these work but Word doesn’t, the issue is with Microsoft Word or print settings.
Check Microsoft Word Print Settings
- Open the Word document.
- Click File > Print.
- Select HP Envy 4512 (ensure it's not Microsoft Print to PDF).
- Click Printer Properties and check:
- Paper size is correct.
- Color is enabled (if needed).
- Print in grayscale is OFF.
- Click Print.
Restart the Print Spooler Service
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.
- Try printing again.
Test with Another User Account
- Create a new Windows user account and try printing.
- If it works, the issue is with the current user profile settings.
Use "Print as Image" in Word
- Open Word and click File > Print.
- Select HP Envy 4512, then click Printer Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab.
- Look for an option like Print as Image (under Advanced Document Settings).
- Click Apply > OK, then try printing.
If nothing works, does the printer work on another PC? If yes, it's a PC issue. If not, the printer software might be corrupt. Let me know what happens! 😊
