Officejet Pro 9015e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have setup my HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e (which was a major pain, and found the fix in these forums).

I am running Windows 10, and have the printer connected via ethernet to the Verizon FIOS router.

In "HP Smart", I have set a static IPv4 IP, with DNS using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4. I have disabled IPv6. I have set the "Power Management Auto Off" to 8-hours (there is no option to disable). I have set the "Energy Save Mode" to 15 minutes (there is no option to disable).

If the screen on the printer goes dark, and I catch it quickly, it will resume with just a touch.

But, if the screen on the printer goes dark and I don't catch it quickly, it will not respond. Touching the screen does nothing. Touching the power button does nothing. Lifting the lid and closing it does nothing. "HP Smart" shows the printer offline/not ready/inactive. Nothing in "HP Smart" will resume the printer. In Windows, under "Printers" the printer is shown but I cannot print a test page or make it resume.  I even tried the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" which told me to reboot my router and printer.

In the end, the only thing that works is unplugging the printer and plugging it back in. It starts back up, and gives me a message saying it was not shutdown properly (no kidding HP).

Is there any fix to this?

Welcome to the HP support community.

Follow the below steps to fix the issue:-

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to fix connectivity and printing issues.

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  2. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  3. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  4. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  5. Try to print.

Assign a manual IP address and that should fix the issue.

Find the printer IP address to assign it manually.

  1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.

  2. From the home screen on the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Wireless icon  or Ethernet icon  to display the network status screen.

  3. Touch Print Details to print the network configuration page.

  4. Alternatively, from the home screen on the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .

  5. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Reports.

  6. Touch Network Configuration Page.

Setting a Static IP Address

Once you know your printer’s IP address from the page you printed, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:

HP Printer Static IP Address

  1. Run your Web browser.
  2. In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
  3. Click the Networking tab.
  4. Under Connections, click Wireless.
  5. Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
  6. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
  7. Click Apply.

I have tried both of those solutions, as mentioned in my original post, but neither has fixed the issue.

If I do not catch it immediately, when the screen goes to sleep/goes blank, it does not respond and so far only unplugging the printer will resolve it.
