Hi @Shirleym1227,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the printhead carriage on your HP Smart Tank 7301 printer is not moving, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue.
- Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions blocking the movement of the printhead carriage. This can include paper jams, foreign objects, or debris in the printer's path.
- Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, this can reset the printer and resolve carriage issues.
- Inspect the Carriage Belt: Examine the carriage belt (the belt that the printhead carriage rides on) for any damage or slack. If it's damaged or loose, it may need to be replaced.
- Check for Ink Cartridge Issues: Sometimes, issues with ink cartridges can prevent the carriage from moving. Ensure that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and that they are not empty.
- Clean the Carriage Rail: Dust and debris can accumulate on the carriage rail over time, causing the carriage to get stuck. Gently clean the rail with a lint-free cloth to remove any dirt.
- Realign or Reset the Printer: Some HP printers have a feature to realign or reset the printhead carriage. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to do this.
- Update Firmware/Drivers: Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, updating the software can resolve hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
