I am experiencing an issue with my HP Smart Tank 581 printer. Whenever I print a document, the content is split across two pages, even though it should fit on a single page. I have checked the page size, margins, and print layout settings, but the problem persists.

Hi @Nikhil148

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the issue clearly. I understand how inconvenient it is when documents that should print on a single page are instead being split across two.

Let’s walk through the steps to resolve this issue with your HP Smart Tank 581 printer.

1. Check Paper Size in Printer & Print Settings

Make sure both the printer and the print dialog on your computer or app are using the same paper size.

On the Printer:

Go to the printer's control panel or HP Smart app.

Confirm the default paper size (usually A4 or Letter) matches the paper loaded.

On Your Computer:

In the print dialog window:

Choose Paper Size as A4 or Letter, depending on what’s in the tray.

Confirm that the document layout matches this size.

2. Set Print Scaling to "Fit to Page"

If the document content slightly overflows the margins, it may push content onto a second page.

In your application (Word, PDF viewer, etc.), click File > Print.

Look for Scaling / Page Sizing / Fit options.

Select Fit to Page or Shrink oversized pages.

Avoid using “Actual size” or “100%” unless you're certain the content fits.

3. Check Margins and Page Breaks in the Document

Sometimes invisible page breaks or large top/bottom margins cause this issue.

Open the document.

Go to Layout > Margins and choose Narrow or Custom.

Check for manual page breaks (especially in Word or Google Docs) and remove them if present.

4. Use HP Smart App to Print

If you're printing from third-party apps, try using the HP Smart app:

Download or open the HP Smart App on your PC or mobile device.

Choose Print > Documents.

Load the same file and print from the app to see if the issue persists.

This often corrects driver mismatches or layout misinterpretation by certain programs.

5. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

Outdated drivers can cause layout issues, especially with new documents or OS updates.

Go to the official HP site:
HP Smart Tank 581 Drivers & Firmware

Enter your model: Smart Tank 581

Download and install the latest:

Printer Driver

Firmware Update Utility

Let me know what platform you're printing from (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android) and what app you're using (Word, Adobe Reader, browser, etc.), and I can tailor further instructions if needed.
