Hi @MRJ77,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble connecting your HP Smart Tank printer to your iPhone and it's asking for a password, follow these steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Printer Connection
- Ensure Printer is Powered On: Make sure your printer is turned on and connected to your Wi-Fi network.
- Use HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app and make sure your printer is listed. If not, try adding it again.
2. Wi-Fi Password
- Double-Check Wi-Fi Password: Ensure you're entering the correct Wi-Fi password. This is the password for your home Wi-Fi network, not the printer's password.
- Check for Typos: Look for any capitalization errors or extra spaces when entering the password.
3. Printer Password
- Default Printer Password: If prompted for a printer-specific password, it might be a default password or one you set up earlier. If you haven't changed it, it could often be the default (often "12345678" or similar). Check your printer's manual for the default password.
4. Reset Network Settings
- Reset Printer Network Settings: If you continue to have issues, you may want to reset the printer’s network settings:
- On the printer, go to the settings menu.
- Look for the "Network" or "Wi-Fi" section.
- Select the option to reset network settings.
- After resetting, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
5. Reconnect Using WPS
- If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you can connect your printer using that method:
- Press the WPS button on your router.
- On the printer, navigate to the network settings and select WPS. This may automatically connect the printer to your Wi-Fi without needing a password.
6. Check Printer Firmware
- Ensure your printer has the latest firmware updates. You can check this via the HP Smart app.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
