Until recently, I was able to print from Microsoft Publisher directly onto C5 envelopes.  I had set up the document as C5 size.  When I printed to HP Smart Printing, I got the HP Smart Printing window come up, and in there I could tell it the paper size was C5, and it offered the option to rotate the printout 180 degrees.  I'm running Windows 11 and have only an HP Envy 6120e printer on the computer.  I did this type of printout several times around Christmas.

Today I tried to do the same thing with a different source document, but it is of exactly the same size.  Firstly, Envelope C5 no longer appears in the Paper Size pulldown menu, though Envelope C6 does, and secondly the Rotate toggle is nowhere to be seen.  (I need to print the document bottom first because of the flap on the envelope which must feed last through the printer.  I realise that I could produce my Publisher document rotated 180 degrees, but this would be rather awkward and inconvenient, as you might guess.)

How do I get the Envelope C5 size back and where has the Rotate 180 degrees toggle gone, please?

I had originally installed the printer from HP Smart.  Today I uninstalled it and the HP Smart program, and instead installed the full featured software (HP Envy 6100 series Basic Device Software).  It has changed the Printing Properties popup to one in which I can now create an Envelope C5 paper size, but there still isn't a Rotate toggle that I can see.

Can anyone help, please?

Welcome to the HP Community --

Perhaps you created the necessary Custom Size paper size form used for the "C5" paper size and the form was lost since the time you first created and used it.  ?

------------------------------------------------------

-- Just FYI --

HP Smart and the Full Driver are completely separate animals.

You can have both installed -- each includes its own strengths and features.

------------------------------------------------------

All the following is offered for your Review and consideration -

Ignore the parts that you've already checked / tried and anything that is not relevant to your situation.

Start...

I've used Publisher a handful of times -- I have only limited examples to share and none are geared precisely to your particular setup or use.

Example - Create and Print your Envelope as you would a document --

Set the paper and layout sized and shaped as the envelope.

Example -- Cannot print Publisher in Landscape?

================================

Continue...

The examples included in section (below) Custom Paper Size Form are meant to illustrate creating the Custom paper size form.  One of the examples shows creating the form and then using it to print the new form using Word.

Next, I've included an example of Printing Envelopes -- the sample does not include "mail merge" -- simply a method to print the Envelope:  Word > Mailings > Envelopes.  Using this method there is no "rotate" used on the envelope.

True - Without the advantage of having a printer with dual trays, printing documents and envelopes together becomes more of a balancing act -- "one then the other".  I cannot advise.

Thanks for the extensive list of things to check, all of which I have already done.  Sadly it doesn't seem to have found the missing Rotate toggle, nor why it refuses to print on C5 envelopes.

Thanks anyway.

You are welcome, anyway...

Too bad it's stubborn.

I've printed a lot of envelopes -- the stubborn ones, those odd-sized, larger, something needling artwork, and perhaps the thicker pieces, I create and print as a "manual" envelope.

I'm sorry nothing is working the way you want.

It was there, it's likely still "there" somewhere.

Rats.

One more thought and then I'll whisk away...

Create a document in the size, layout, and shape of the envelope.

Document printing can be printed as you like -- including an Orientation setting.

Of course, I don't have a full example using Publisher --

I do have an example using an older version of Word (early 2025).

Sadly no fix, but the responses gave me a lot of suggestions.  Thank you.

@TonyQ007

You are welcome.

"All lot of suggestions" already tried, apparently.

Smiling.

If you are not finding the settings that should be available,

If the custom paper size form is not being added and / or is not available,

and

If you cannot print a manual envelope shaped document,

The problem is not likely the printer --

The printer is, after all, unaware of what it is printing.

Nonetheless,

"Just in case"

A printer power Reset might shake loose whatever is "stuck".

HP printers - Slow printing (Windows, macOS)

Step 1

-- Next --

The other, more obvious source might be the printer software itself --

Word document printing -- for example, printing a simple envelope shaped document onto paper -- depends on the full driver printer software.

Interestingly, from what you say, the issue is only apparently exhibiting in paper that is C5 shaped and sized.

So, odd.

If you have not done so,

Consider / Try (after the Reset)

Reinstall the full driver printer software.
