Hi @Naren31,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out — we understand how frustrating it is when you send a print command full of hope, only to be met with silence from your printer. Let's work together to get your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2338 talking properly to your MacBook Air running MacOs 14.5 Sonoma through the dock.

🔵HP cannot guarantee full printer functionality when connecting through a third-party USB dock or hub.
Printers are designed to work best when connected directly to your Mac's built-in USB ports.

Some docks, especially non-powered or low-bandwidth ones, may not properly handle the printer’s data signals, causing issues like the printer not responding, not being detected, or print jobs failing.

If you want the most stable and reliable connection, we strongly recommend:

  • Connecting the printer directly to the Mac's USB port (without the dock).
  • Or using Wi-Fi/AirPrint if your printer supports it (your Deskjet 2338 does support USB printing, but not wireless by default).

1. Check the Dock Connection:

  • Sometimes docks (especially non-powered ones) may not properly pass the USB connection through.
  • Try connecting the printer directly to the MacBook's USB port (bypassing the dock) to see if it is recognized.

2. Confirm Printer Visibility:

  • On your Mac, click the Apple menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • See if your HP printer shows up.
  • If not listed, click the Add Printer (+) button and see if the printer appears under USB devices.

3. Install or Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Download the correct drivers if available for MacOs 14.5. (Note: If no dedicated driver is available, MacOs should use AirPrint or Secure AirPrint automatically.)

4. Reset the Printing System (only if needed):
(Warning: This will remove all printers and scanners from your Mac.)

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control + Click) in the printer list, then select Reset Printing System.
  • After resetting, add the printer again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
