Looking at your manual here, it states that you can use airprint on page 31 and must pair your smartphone to the printer using bluetooth to configure it (unless you use front panel)
If printer is connected to router then you cannot print directly to printer. Setup for this is explained.
If "print direct" is enabled then the printer is not on the router and you can print directly to it using airprint.
Post back if more help needed.
Want to mention that I can print from my iPhone 12 with iOS 17.1 through the router to my HP laserjet. But only certain apps can use the print feature.
