My printer keeps making noises as if it's printing but I'm not printing at the moment. I've cleared the queue and registered multiple times.

Hi @Pssrdy

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. If the printer is making printing noises even when no print job is being sent, and you've already cleared the print queue and restarted the printer multiple times, thank you for completing those troubleshooting steps.

To better understand what is triggering the activity, could you share:

  • The exact HP printer model.
  • Does the noise occur at regular intervals (for example, every few minutes or every hour)?
  • Is it a paper feed noise, carriage movement noise, or a full startup/calibration sound?
  • Are any lights blinking or is there any message displayed on the printer screen?
  • Is the printer connected via Wi-Fi, USB, or Ethernet?
  • Have you recently installed the HP App, updated firmware, or changed cartridges?

Some HP printers can periodically perform maintenance routines, printhead servicing, alignment checks, or network status checks, and identifying the type of noise will help determine whether the behavior is expected or requires additional troubleshooting.

Please share the printer model and a brief description of the sound, and we'll continue with the most appropriate troubleshooting steps.

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
