Completely agree with you! Same boat as you on warranty and am also technically inclined enough to follow instructions... the printer would NOT be broken had HP's firmware had NOT been defective.
As mentioned before, anyone up for a class action lawsuit if HP is unable to fix the damage done???

Hi all, just wanted to say I'm having the same issue. I have a "HP Color LaserJet MFP M281cdw" and every time the printer goes into energy mode it triggers the "79 Service Error - Turn Off then on". The only way to stop the reboots after that is to disconnect it from the rotor. So either turn off rotor if on Wi-Fi and or just unplug ethernet cable if hardwired. The network I'm using at home is COX with Gateway rotor Model: CGM4140COM
What I've Tried that hasn't worked:
Thinking it was a corrupt PDF print, I cleared all print queues and also cleaned them from windows\system32\spooler\printers
-Removed all device from Rotor, so just printer was on the network
-Performed a restore default settings on printer
-Performed Factory Reset on printer
-Tried Disabling rotor settings, like Advanced Security and UPnP (Just wishful thinking)
-Performed Factory Reset on Rotor.
-Even had COX replace the rotor.
One thing to note is if I change the "Sleep/Auto Off After Inactivity" in the printers advanced mode under Energy Settings from the default 1 minute to say 15 minutes. The printer will not trigger error until it goes to sleep.
Would be great if HP provides a firmware fix or at less a firmware roll back as i agree this is NOT a user issue. This issue has been introduced by HP and needs to be resolved by them regardless if your printer is under warranty or not.

Update: HP keeps taking the link to the old firmware off this site. Go outside this community and google the problem. Look for the Reddit solution. One hint that took me awhile to figure out. I had downloaded the old driver but still had to execute the program to get it to load.

I found a solution on Reddit. HP keeps taking the link to the old firmware off this site. One hint that took me awhile to figure out, even when I had the driver. I had downloaded the old driver but still had to execute the program to get it to load. Some parts of the Reddit post made me think it would load from a flash drive inserted into the printer, but it actually ran from my desktop which was connected to the printer via USB.
