HP Officejet Pro 8035e
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Hello - I've recently installed the HP Officejet Pro 8035e on a Mac.  I have extremely little experience with a Mac.  I can't seem to get it to print in color - there is no option in the dialogue boxes to choose black/white or color.  I tried uninstalling the printer and reinstalling, I've tried downloading the drivers (I originally set it up simply by plugging it into the computer and I can print just fine) Is there something different that I can do to get the proper drivers installed?

I also tried scanning and it seems to not be working also.  thank you for any help.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Is the Mac not able to detect the printer or is it printing only in black?

  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

Try making a standalone copy in color from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Check the print settings:

  1. Open a document, photo, or webpage, click File > Print to open the Print window.

  2. Make sure your printer is selected, and then click Show Details if it displays to access the print settings available for your printer.

  3. Using the drop-down menu in the center of the window to access print settings

  4. Color or black and white: Select or remove the selection from Black & White on the main dialog. The Presets menu also includes color and black and white options.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.
