Just installed new printer cartridges on my HP Officejet Pro 8035e. Printed a test page and it printed in black ink. Opened a Word document that had some text in color and selected to print it. Only black print printed on the page. I checked all my settings but everything looks normal. What could be the problem.

@DG1024, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP Officejet Pro 8035e is only printing in black and white even though you're trying to print color documents, here are the most likely causes and solutions:
Check Printer Driver Settings
Windows:
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
Right-click your HP Officejet Pro 8035e, and choose Printing Preferences
Look for a setting like Print in Grayscale or Black Ink Only — make sure it's unchecked
Also look under Advanced or Color tabs if available
Printhead Might Be Clogged
If color ink isn't flowing even with new cartridges:
On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
Run the cleaning cycle (may take 2-3 cycles)
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
