HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476dn

Good morning,

I connected my laserjet MFP M476dn to new computer with the uSB-cable. The printer starts and gives a large number of (almost empty) pages only with post/ipp/printer HTTP/1.1 and a line of characters.

There are no more printjobs in the spoolfile, but every time ik power on the printer the prces starts all over again.

Hi @JanKees_NL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're encountering with your LaserJet MFP M476dn printing pages with "post/ipp/printer HTTP/1.1" and random characters typically points to a communication problem between the printer and the computer, often related to incorrect or corrupted drivers. Here's a step-by-step approach to resolve this problem.

Clear the Printer Queue

Stop the Print Spooler Service:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Find and right-click on "Print Spooler", then select "Stop".

Clear the Spooler Files:

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in this folder.

Restart the Print Spooler Service:

  • Go back to the services.msc window, right-click on "Print Spooler", and select "Start".

Reinstall the Printer Driver

Uninstall the Current Driver:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the LaserJet MFP M476dn and select "Remove device".
  • Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall any software related to your printer.

Download the Latest Driver:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for the LaserJet MFP M476dn.
  • Download the latest drivers for your operating system.

Install the New Driver:

  • Follow the installation instructions provided by HP, making sure the printer is connected via USB when prompted.

Configure Printer Settings

Ensure Proper Port Configuration:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the LaserJet MFP M476dn, select "Printer properties", and navigate to the "Ports" tab.
  • Ensure the correct port (USB) is selected.

Check Default Print Protocol:

  • In the same "Printer properties" window, go to the "Advanced" tab.
  • Ensure the correct driver is selected in the "Driver" dropdown menu.

Update Firmware (if needed)

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • On the HP Support website, check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.
    • Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Reset the Printer

  1. Factory Reset (if all else fails):
    • Consult the printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
    • Note that this will reset all settings to their defaults, so you may need to reconfigure network settings and other customizations.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue with your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
