I have a surface pro 9 when i installed the hp 8120e printer it did not work . Then I followed your instructions. I removed the print, download the HP Smart Universal Printing Driver for Windows V4 (ARM64-bit) and then installed the printer again. However the printer still does not work. I print the text page.it goes to the print queue and in status says printing then changes to status unknown and then to deleated . the page does not get printed and the print queue gets empty.
Could you please be so kind to give me your adivse to see how can i solve this problem.

My symptoms were exactly the same as yours. I spent many hours online with HP Support then with Microsoft Support remotely accessing my computers. It turns out that the HP drivers for the 9720e printer are faulty as is the HP instal program for them. The Microsoft guys came up with a work around to use the generic Microsoft IPP Class drive driver and that works fine as an interim measure until the HP guys get their act together and generate a working driver set.
The procedure is as follows:
- Delete the 9720e printer from the devices screen in Settings.
- Enable protected mode printing then disable it again (later proved that this step is not necessary, but it ensures that protected mode printing is not enabled)
- Restart the computer
- Install the 9720e printer as normal. Do not try printing at this point.
- Restart the computer again
- Open 'More devices and printer settings' for the HP 9720e printer in Settings
- Right click the 9720e printer in all devices then select Printer…Properties... Advanced.
- Change the printer driver to the MS IPP class printer driver in the View screen and apply the change.
- Test printing to the 9720e
I have now re-imaged the computers accessed remotely to remove the many abortive settings changes made. Using the procedure above, I have printing working happily from two ARM processor-based PCs. Note that scanning has always worked fine, even when I could not print, and printing has always worked fine from Intel-based PCs. The problems have been the faulty printer drivers for ARM-based PCs and the faulty installation program for these computers. Disappointing, but there it is.
