Hello,

I have the same issue with Photosmart C4780. After the upgrade, when I plug in the printer, there is no sign that it's acknowledged by the pc, even after many hours trying all sorts of solutions, including:

-checked usb ports by plugging in other devices

-plugged the printer to another computer to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue

-uninstalled and reinstalled driver (here i can never complete and test the install because it requires the printer to be plugged in and when I do it nothing happens)

- tried scan and print doctor, solution center and an individual solution that the unsuccessful install saved to my desktop

The only message I get during install is that the Bing bar is not compatible to this version of windows.

Please help!

You're welcome. 🙂

Thanks for further isolating the issue. Sounds like the PC needs updated USB drivers for the USB. If it is an HP computer, I should be able to help you out further. Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

However, if it is another brand computer, I suggest you to contact the computer manufacturer for assistance.

Cheers!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Photosmart C4780 All-in-One Printer and it does not work on your computer post the Win10 Creator's update. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Do other USB devices get detected when you connect them to your computer?

NOTE: If you're going to connect the printer via USB, then do not connect it initially. Begin the installation first and later there will be a prompt to connect the printer. That's when you may connect the printer.

I suggest you uninstall the existing printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them. The below steps will help:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may download and install the drivers from this link.

If the printer still does not print then let us install the inbuilt printer drivers from the Windows operating system itself. Please refer to the steps mentioned under "Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard >> USB connection (Windows 10, 8)" from this HP document.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂

Thank you for your help.

I had tested the usb ports with my cell and now I realized that it charges but windows doesn't recognize it, so it's an windows issue and not a problem with the printer or driver.  The update turned off  4 of the 6 usb ports in my pc. I already tried updating their drivers, disabling and reenabling and uninstalling and rebooting but they are still off. If you have any idea how to fix this, I'd appreciate it.

Best,
