Hi @Teacher4Life,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error code OW_4XX_OWSWS00001 you're encountering during the setup of your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e series printer. It typically relates to an issue with connecting the printer to HP's web services or a problem with the HP Smart app.

Here are several troubleshooting steps to try:

1. Restart Devices

  • Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it for 1-2 minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Router: Restart your router by unplugging it for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and allow it to reboot.
  • Computer/Device: Restart the device you're using to set up the printer.

2. Clear HP Smart App Cache (if on mobile)

If you're using a smartphone or tablet, clearing the app's cache might help resolve setup issues:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage > Clear Cache.

3. Update HP Smart App

Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed.

  • Windows/macOS: Visit the Microsoft Store or Mac App Store to check for updates.
  • Mobile devices: Check the Google Play Store or Apple App Store for updates.

4. Check Internet Connection

Ensure that your printer and computer/device are connected to a stable network. Use a 2.4GHz network if your printer does not support 5GHz.

5. Disable VPN/Firewall (Temporarily)

If you are using a VPN or firewall, it might block the connection to HP's web services. Temporarily disable it during the setup.

6. Try Manual IP Setup

If the setup fails, you can try manually setting up the printer using its IP address:

  1. Open a browser and enter your printer’s IP address (find it in the printer settings or from the printer display).
  2. This should open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  3. Navigate to the Network Settings or Web Services tab and try enabling the services from there.

7. Reset Network Settings on Printer

If none of the above works, try resetting the network settings on the printer:

  1. Go to the printer’s Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Network Settings > Restore Network Settings.
  3. Try connecting again through HP Smart.
