I've found numerous similar posts..some with no solution and others with comments about private message with links to a firmware that removes this security feature.  I would kindly ask to be provided a way to disable/remove this as well for my printer, which is HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.

I do agree with some others that this 'feature' seems more like HP is locking their users to force them to use their overpriced cartridges.  It's like buying a car that will only allow you to put in a specific brand gas.. it makes no sense.  If it voids any warranties, then I would be fine with it, but found HP documentation that says it does not void the warranty.

In any case, please provide me a solution...otherwise, I will forever boycott HP brands (not just printers).

Welcome to the HP support community.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
