I am trying to set up my HP Laser Jet Pro M203dw printer on a new wireless network, but cannot remember the administrator password to the printer itself. Please note that it is not the wifi direct password I am unsure of but the password to the printer itself.

Hi @Jimbo3234,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to reset the administrator password on your HP LaserJet Pro M203dw printer, you'll need to restore the printer to its factory default settings. This will reset all settings, including the administrator password.

Here are the steps to do this:

Turn off the printer:

  • Ensure that the printer is turned off. If it's already on, press the power button to turn it off.

Enter the Service Menu:

  • Press and hold the Cancel button (the red "X" button) and the Wireless button (the blue LED button) simultaneously.
  • While holding these buttons, turn on the printer by pressing the power button.
  • Continue holding the Cancel and Wireless buttons until the Ready and Attention LEDs blink together.

Restore Factory Defaults:

  • Once the LEDs start blinking, release the buttons.
  • Wait for the printer to initialize and display the Ready state.
  • Press the OK button to enter the service menu.
  • Navigate to the "Restore Defaults" option using the arrow keys.
  • Press OK to confirm and restore the factory settings.

Reconfigure the Printer:

  • After the printer restarts and restores the default settings, you will need to reconfigure the printer settings, including reconnecting it to your wireless network.

Set a New Administrator Password:

  • Once the printer is connected to the network, open a web browser on your Mac and enter the printer's IP address to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Log in to the EWS (it should not prompt for a password since it's reset).
  • Go to the Security tab and set a new administrator password.

I hope this helps.

Please note:

The Hp printer that I have (LaserJet Pro M203dw) does not have a display, so it is not possible to show a service menu on this printer.
