I am experiencing a similar issue as this one: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Change-Admin-Password-on-OfficeJet-Pro-...
I have tried changing my password. It looked like it accepted it without issue, but now I can no longer log in as admin under the new or default password. I'm not sure if the new password got truncated without warning or rejecting my password was too long? Anyways, I need some assistance in resetting the admin password.
I tried, "Restore Network Settings" per suggestion in link above, and I believe I tried to do a soft reset. Nothing had worked.
Thank you,

So I was finally able to get in. Doing a partial or semi-full reset did not reset the Admin password. But I discovered what was going on. As a background, I use a password manager to randomly generate a password that was 20 characters in length. Luckily I saved this password. So I kept trying to log in by entering that password and using one less character each time. Annoying because there is a lock out period which I have to wait after a few attempts. So come to find out the password length has to be 16 characters or less. The embedded webserver apparently truncates anything over that. No in the instructions does it say what the max length should be:
The password can only consist of the following printable ASCII characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and the following special characters:!"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^_`{|}~
Please, please, please tell your engineers to fix this behavior. If someone enters a password greater than the permitted limit, it should not be allowed to be truncated and saved and the user should be told why. I was about ready to throw my printer out.

Hi @bgibson76,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
We have to perform a Semi Full Reset to unlock the features of the printer/Reset the password.
The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
