HI@AliceB,Scott687,
From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the
Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Printer Maintenance.
3. Touch Restore.
4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
5. Touch Restore.
Alternatively, you can try the following steps:
1. Open a web browser and type the printer IP address in the address field exactly as it appears on the Configuration Page, and then press Enter.
2. Click the Security tab, and under General Security, set the local administrator password.
3. Keep the username default as admin.
4. Type the New Password and Verify Password.
5. Navigate to the bottom of the page and click Apply.

Thank you Praveenbv. Unfortunately neither option works.
On the printer screen, I do not have a "Printer Maintenance" option available under setup, and any options that I do have that seem like might be the right route ask me for the password that I don't have.
When I log in through the web browser, the same problem arises. Anything I click that is remotely administrative will ask me for the password that I don't have.
I need either access to that password, or the ability to hard reset the printer to start over. Thanks again

Hi Praveen
Thankyou for posting this; I have managed to carry out the semi-full reset using this procedure on my LaserJet 8620 but I still can't login as admin. I used 'admin' as the userid and 'admin' and <blank> as the passwords...

Hi@wood59Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Open the embedded web server
1. Find out the IP address or hostname of the printer by touching (Wireless) or (Ethernet) or by printing a network configuration page. Note: The printer must be on a network and must have an IP address.
2. In a supported web browser on your computer, type the IP address of the printer. For example, if the IP address is 123.123.123.123 Note: If you get a security message as "your connection is not private", click on Advanced and proceed to this website.
On the printer settings page, go to Scan > scan to email > Select your email address > Edit > Authenticate > Email login authentication > Input new password > Next > Save and Test
Let me know how this goes.
