Laser Jet Pro

A coworker and I have been tasked with restricting access to a LaserJet Pro MFP 4101 fdw printer that our supervisor recently purchased. They want to place it in a publicly accessible area, and want its use to be restricted to only our employees. The problem is that we don't have access to the administrator login information, and it is unlikely that we will be given access to it. Is there any other way to restrict access to the printer so that only those who we want to use it are allowed to?

Earlier Post Remove -- I was reminded that this series does support the advanced security settings you need to control who has access to which features on the printer.

Update / Edit - Update example plate

You need administrative access to the printer to make these kind of changes -- there is no alternative - you cannot make changes of this type without full access to the printer's features, including the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

                                   -------------- NOTE -------------

Be careful of any settings that involve the additional security on the printer.

It is possible to lock up access – proceed with caution.

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Advanced Settings > Remote Scan > User Authentication

Next,

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Security > Access Control > Permissions / Printer User Accounts

-----------------------------------------------

NOTE:

Details, tabs, sections differ by Printer Model

Advanced Security - Access Control

The EWS looks like this for the printer, and we are unsure what to mark to restrict access. We have admin access now. We've tried adding Print User Accounts, but that hasn't prevented the ability for any device to connect to the printer and have it fulfill a print job.

You need to change the user access from the blue checkmark to the lock which forces sign-in to perform functions.
