In my family house we have 3 laptops owned by different people. I have an 6830 printer that i use for scanning and printing on more expoensive paper. I'd like to restrict access to the one windows 7 laptop that has the printer softeare installed on in.
Is there any way i can allow access to this latopt and deny access to the others. The printer and laptops are connected wirelessly via our hosuehould router.

You're most welcome and thank you for your kind words.
I did some further research on this case. The below work around may help:
- Click on Start >> Devices and Printers.
- Right click on your printer and select "Printer properties".
- In the printer properties window, click on the "Security" tab.
- Under the security tab, select the user account that you do not wish to print from and select remove.
- Click on Apply and OK.
Example of the printer properties window:
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to assist.
I understand that you would like print from your HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer from your Win7 laptop only and would like to disable the access from other computers.
If the printer is installed on the Win7 laptop, then please disable the printer sharing option. This will not allow other computers to print from this printer. The following steps will help:
-
Click the Start button, type Control Panel, and press Enter.
This step opens the Control Panel.
-
Double-click the Network and Sharing Center icon and then click Change Advanced Sharing Settings.
This step opens the Advanced Sharing Settings page, which lists network settings for each network you’re connected to.
-
For a home computer running Windows 7: Two networks are listed: Home or Work, and Public.
-
In Windows 8: The Home or Work network is called Private.
-
For a computer connected to a domain network: A third network named Domain is listed.
-
-
Click the down arrow next to the network you want to enable file and printer sharing for.
-
For a home computer: Click the down arrow next to Home or Work (Windows 7) or Private (Windows 8).
-
For a computer connected to a domain network: Click the down arrow next to Domain.
-
Do not enable file or printer sharing for the Public network. Enabling file or printer sharing on a public network exposes your computer’s data to other users on the same public network.
The figure shows the settings for a Domain network. The settings for a Home or Work network are the same.
-
Select the Turn off File and Printer Sharing option.
-
Click the Save Changes button.
This action saves your changes and closes the Advanced Sharing Settings page.
I hope this information helps. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

Good morning and thank you very much for your kind offer of assistance.
I'm assuming that as two of my 3 computers are part of a home group that this printer would be listed their under users but it is not. Turning off file and printer sharing also stops me sharing my files via my homegroup. When i turn it on, the printer is not there. I think i would expect to see it listed under users but i may be wrong of course.
It was my hope that i could restrict access to the printer for only those computers that are in my homegroup, if not then i was hoping there may be a pin facility on the printer to allow only certain people to use it or failing that i may speak to microsoft to see if i can restrict access to the printer only to my homegroup.
I have aklso posted a similar question on the microsoft answers forum in case that is my best option.
But thank you very much for taking an interest in my question.

I think my printer has a facility whereby it is possible to print wirelessly and directly to the printer rather than via the router. If this is possible then it may give me a better solution and greater control of who can access the printer. Thanks once again for being so supportive and inspirational.

Thanks for writing back to us again.
I have checked the specifications of your printer and you can print directly from your printer without connecting to the router.
Refer this article to know how to print using wireless directly.

My Dear Sir
I must advise that your feedback comes late in the day. I have just spent a very pleaseant couple of hours doing just that.
You see originaly i posted the question with Microsoft Answers because i thought one solution woul dbe windows based. As you may know the timeless solution for this is to physically plug the printer into my chosen laptop. That would work and is the best actual solution.
However you solution of changing the access rights is also correct but needs to be carried out on each machine int he house.
I have been aware for some time of printing using wifi direct. So after deleting the printer from both mhy laptops and resting the net work settings i activiated wifi direct and connected the printer directly to my laptop therby bypassing my household router and access for all the family.
This way i was able to print text, pdf and scan photos without issue. SO for now i am happy with all of our solutions.
I will though have a read of you link to see how far it agrees with my findings.
Thanks so much once again.
