Is there any way to work around the following, either in the driver or a third-party app, automatically - without user intervention: On paper-out condition, as expected, the last page is a partial print.  When a new roll of paper is reloaded, the print job does not continue/resume.  I then have to resubmit the job, starting with the last partially-printed page.  The printer obviously has the ability to report the paper out condition.  Is it impossible to design/engineer the driver to deal with this scenario?

HP DesignJet T120 and T520 Printer Series - User's Guide

Based on the explanation in the user guide, the printer is not aware of a low-paper condition and reports the out-of-paper condition (only) on the printer display panel.

Out-of paper condition (text message error) indicates the need to replace the paper and restart the job.

Based on this information, Answer:

"  Is it impossible to design/engineer the driver to deal with this scenario?  "

The printer relies on the operator to be aware of the low-paper condition before starting a series of jobs that might require replacing the paper roll.

There is no automatic method to deal with an out-of-paper condition that might interfere with job completion.

Alerts

How to check - Notification of error / alert conditions (as noted on Page 115)

It is possible the guide does not cover all "alert" conditions.

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / configure printer Alerts.

Check Alerts configuration for a way to warn the operator of a low-paper / out-of-paper condition.

Alerts are first discussed and explained starting on Page 19

Alert types are explained on Page 115

Search the user guide for "Embedded Web Server" and / or "Alerts"
