Hi @noevan,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the print spooler service on your computer may be encountering errors that prevent it from functioning properly, which is why you need to stop and restart it each time you want to print a document. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and fix the problem.
Restart the print spooler service:
- Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
- Type "services.msc" into the box and press Enter to open the Services window.
- Scroll down the list of services until you find "Print Spooler".
- Right-click on "Print Spooler" and select "Restart".
- Try printing a document again to see if the problem is resolved.
Clear the print spooler folder:
- Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS.
- Delete all files in this folder.
- Restart the print spooler service as described in step 1.
- Try printing a document again to see if the problem is resolved.
Update your printer drivers:
- Go to the HP website and search for the latest drivers for your Officejet 4657 printer.
- Download and install the drivers, following the on-screen instructions.
- Restart your computer and try printing a document again to see if the problem is resolved.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
