Scammer Alert!! HP "help" chat box a hoax!

I have upgraded to OS Sonoma 14.4 and having trouble getting my HP MFP M28-M31 Printer/Scan/Copier even while USB connected. The computer shows it there and idle, but it won't print.

I got online to download the latest driver and got a fatal error. I tried this again thinking I'd missed a step to the same end. A pop up chat box chimed in both times I got the error and the second time I decided to try it. A person answered almost immediately after the first couple of typical bot questions. He initially helped me with the basics and when that failed he requested I turn the controls over to him remotely. I did, as I've done with Canon in the past. He tried to download the latest driver but got the same fatal error message. He started looking into the computer terminal because suddenly the computer (which is new, blazing fast, has more than enough RAM and super fast internet speeds. This was a red flag to me. He acted concerned that it was so slow. I told him there's no reason for it. He checked some files and pointed out that there were many sleeping files and bad sectors, corrupt, infected. I have a malware program that is constantly scanning in the background. He said it was worthless and from that point on started his sales pitch. Basically it was a scam to get me to buy a pricy virus protection and he had NOTHING to do with HP at all. He called himself Patrick and I'm sure it was more like Raj, he was calling from PA, he said,  Eastern time zone. I disconnected his link to my computer and hung up. BEWARE of this!! It appears to be a real chat box. HP does NOT host chats!!! I had to look it up. I hope this somehow helps others.
