In general, when the HP Smart (or HP App) does not see the Scan Tile, there might be some type of communication issue, possibly between the physical printer and the device where the application is running or -- also possible -- an issue in the application that causes the scan feature to drop out of the list.

 

If not tried,

Restart both computer and the printer to try and "restore" normal communication.

Start HP App / HP Smart -- make sure you are signed into the application -- check the Tile list.

 

Perhaps try the "Remove from app" / "Hide" the printer in the HP App / HP Smart application.

Restart the computer and sign in.

Test.

 

If a simple printer Restart and / or "Remove" / "Hide" printer does not work, both HP App and the older HP Smart application support an "Application Reset" option.  The app reset removes the printer and the printer's data from your Windows user account. 

 

Settings > Apps > Installed Apps

 

Search / Find / Select HP Smart in the installed apps list

and / or

Search / Find / select HP (app) in the installed apps list

 

Open Advanced options > Reset the app

 

 

-- Notes --

  • The app reset is harmless to your printer and your Windows account but can help HP App / HP Smart to regain its features and settings.
  • After the reset, restart computer (and perhaps your printer).
  • Sign into your computer
  • Start HP App / HP Smart
  • Make sure you are signed into the application.

  • Add the printer to the application
