Hi, Scanning takes at least 10 minutes per page. Sometimes it feeds the paper half way and just sits on "scanning ..." for hours (over night). The power button on the front won't turn it off or back on. I have to physically remove the plug from the back, then physically rip the paper out of the feeder. It also will take 10 minutes to make a copy then it goes back to taking 2 minutes to make a copy. My software, HP Smart, OS, drivers and such are all updated. I don't get what's going on. I've never been able to turn it off or on with the power button in front, that should've been a red flag to me when it was brand new out of the box. Any suggestions?

@LSHIDM, Welcome to HP Support Community!
What happens when you print from the computer? Is that normal?
If the issue happens with making photocopies too, follow the steps below-
Open and close the input paper tray used for copying and evaluate the prompt on the screen.
Ensure the correct paper type and size are selected (e.g. Plain Paper, US Letter / A4) and then check for any difference.
If the same persists tap Copy > Copy document and click the gear icon, then select Restore Defaults and confirm any prompt and try copying again.
Keep me posted for further assistance.

Printing from the computer works just fine.
It happened again today. I opened and shut the paper tray and it didn't fix it. I placed a sheet of paper in it to be scanned, hit scan in the HP Smart app, it started to take the paper, then halfway stopped feeding the paper, but the screen on the printer had "scanning...". I ended up unplugging it and replugging it in from the power after 41 minutes of nothing. When this happens there is no gear icon, there is only scanning or copying messages on the screen. It doesn't respond to touching the screen or hitting the power button. I have to unplug it to reset it.

Thanks for replying!
Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Try scanning/copying!
If the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.
Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
Hope this helps!
