Because my HP 4512 crapped out last night, this morning I hooked up and started an HP DeskJet 4152e. The main purpose for purchasing this machine is for the scanning option. The test page printed out fine. Now I am trying to scan a document and so far I have not been able to figure it out on my own and neither the instructions in the box or Google have been successfully helpful. From the pop up menu from the Windows icon, an HP Smart icon appears under the HP folder icon and the HP folder icon opens to HP Photo Creations. Those are my 2 options. Clicking the HP Smart icon opens an HP Smart window that contains a Scan icon. Clicking the Scan icon opens another HP Smart window with 2 clickable icons - Create Account and Sigh In. Is this telling me that in order to simply scan a document with the 4152e, I have to open ANOTHER online account that must be secured and maintained? The system is corded and I wish to stay corded. Any suggestions, ideas, comments any wish to offer about where instructions about how to scan documents with the 4152e, hopefully without having to open ANOTHER online account, can be found will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

Hi @kthr33,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're having trouble scanning documents using the HP DeskJet 4152e without wanting to create an online account. While some features in HP Smart may require an account, scanning documents locally should be possible without one. Here are general steps to guide you.

Check Connectivity:

  • Ensure that your HP DeskJet 4152e is correctly connected to your computer.

Use HP Smart for Local Scanning:

  • Open HP Smart on your computer.
  • Click on the "Scan" tile or find a "Scan" option within the application.

Explore Windows Scanning Options:

  • If HP Smart isn't working as expected, you can also use the built-in scanning features in Windows:
    • Open the "Windows Fax and Scan" or "Windows Scan" application. You can find it by searching in the Start menu.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your document.

Check for HP Scan Software:

  • Ensure that you have installed the necessary drivers and software that came with your HP DeskJet 4152e. You might find additional scanning options there.

Manual Buttons on the Printer:

  • Some HP printers have physical buttons on the device that allow you to initiate scanning directly from the printer. Check the printer's manual for guidance.

Consult the Manual:

  • Refer to the user manual that came with your HP DeskJet 4152e. It should provide step-by-step instructions on how to scan documents.

Remember, you should be able to perform basic scanning functions without creating an online account.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank You Alden4 for considering and responding to my post. After my posting, I contacted HP about this issue and was connected to a tech. The tech remoted in and after clicking around a bit, arrived at the same window as I had, requiring the set up of an online account. The tech convienced me my scanner would never run until I opened an online account as instructed. Very reluctantly I complied. Even then, after several attempts, the tech was still not able to get my scanner running. At that point I ended our session, uninstalled everything 'HP' on my computer, and made other arrangements for our scanning needs. Ricoh is now doing what HP couldn't. I now have an overpriced paperweight on the credenza right next to my mouse as a constant reminder that I am no longer HP quality. Your effort is greatly appreciated, but by the time of your posting, our HP problem was solved... for good. K.
