We have an HP Color LAser MFP 179fwg. The printer has been added to WIndows as an WSD printer and a scanning profile has been configured in the Windows Control Panel.

When we push the "Scan Button" on the printer (button 9 acc. to the HP reference manual, i.e. the lowest button on the right of the display) we end in an endless loop. More precisely, the following happes:

1. We push the button "Scan" on the printer (button #9)

2. The display of the printer shows: "Ready for scan" (1st line) and "Print to WSD" (2nd line)

3. We push the button "OK" on the printer

4. The display of the printer shows: "WSD-PC list" (1st line) and "my-pc-host-name.my-domain.tld"

5. We push the button "OK" on the printer; the printer jumps back to step #2, but nothing else happens; in particular, the scan does not start

The fact that the printer shows the correct fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the Windows host, tells me that the network settings are all fine and that the PC and printer are connected.

Why doesn't it work?

Hi @MatthiasN,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing scanning issues with your HP Color Laser MFP 179fwg printer.

Please follow the steps listed below to uninstall and reinstall HP Smart App:

Step 1: Uninstall HP Smart App.

1. Navigate to and open Settings

2. Select Apps or Application Manager from the device Settings

3. Select HP Smart

4. Select Uninstall

Step 2: Reinstall HP Smart App.

1. Download the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com (Android, Apple iOS, iPad OS),

or HP Smart - Microsoft Store (Windows),

or HP Smart - Mac App Store (Mac).

2. Open the HP Smart app.

3. The app searches for recently installed printers.

- If your printer displays, click it. If you are setting up a new printer, it might display with Set-Up under the name.

- If your printer does not display, click the Plus sign, and then follow the on-screen prompts to add your printer or set up a new printer.
