Hey Guys,

We have changed multiple settings and used various drivers, but we can't seem to turn on the secure PIN for printing on our MFP. Any assistance with the exact steps for this device would be appreciated. Thanks!

@taliaaustin, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

Secure PIN printing using Job Storage is a great way to ensure confidential documents are only printed when you're physically at the printer. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you enable this feature on your HP MFP:

Pre-requisites

  • Ensure your printer supports Job Storage and has a hard drive or RAM disk.
  • Use the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) - preferably the latest version from HP official site.

Steps to Enable Secure PIN Printing

One-Time PIN Print Job

  1. Open the document and press Ctrl + P or go to File > Print.
  2. Select your HP printer and click Printer Properties or Preferences.
  3. Go to the Job Storage tab.
  4. Set Job Storage Mode to Personal Job.
  5. Under Make Job Private/Secure, select PIN to Print.
  6. Enter a 4-digit PIN you'll use at the printer to release the job.
  7. Click OK, then Print.

Always Use PIN for This Printer

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Preferences.
  3. Go to the Job Storage tab.
  4. Set Job Storage Mode to Personal Job.
  5. Choose PIN to Print and enter your 4-digit PIN.
  6. Click OK to save.

Releasing the Job at the Printer

  1. On the printer’s control panel, select Retrieve from Device Memory or Job Storage.
  2. Find the folder with your username.
  3. Select your print job.
  4. Enter your PIN.
  5. Press Start or Print.

Advanced Configuration (Optional for IT Admins)

You can pre-configure and enforce PIN printing using:

  • HP Driver Configuration Utility (DCU)
  • HP UPD Install.exe switches like /pfpjpin
  • Active Directory Group Policy Templates
