Deskjet 3636
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

I am sending documents to print. It is showing in the job list as "sending print data" but doesn't actually print. I am using a mac with os 10.6.8. I think it must be something simple but just can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!


I see that you are having issues while printing using your Deskjet printer. I’d suggest resetting the printing system will help you fix this issue. Here are the steps:
 

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Hi. I've tried all this but still same problem. When I chose the printer software it only gives me the option for HP Deskjet 3600. There is no option for 3636. Could this be the problem?

Deskjet 3636 is a sub-series of Deskjet 3600 and the software for both the printers are the same. Hence no, that is not the problem.

 

Try to completely uninstall the drivers, update the Apple software and then try the steps again.

 

·         Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC

·         Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C

·         Restart your computer and printer.

 

Now, try the steps listed in my above message and check for issue resolution.

 

If the issue persists, let me know if the printer can make a copy or not. Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

Hi. Tried all of this but unfortunately still having the same issue. Laptop did download an HP driver update but didn't make a difference

It looks like you were interacting with @Dvortex, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out, 

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm at your service. 

 

As a last resort, I recommend utilizing the HP Deskjet 990c drivers as an alternative to your HP DeskJet 3636,

I suggest you download and install the drivers by Clicking here.

 

Once installed you should be able to printer without any issues as this model supports the latest MacOS printer drivers,

If you have any issues, please go through this entire link (Click here) and install the drivers using apple software and everything should work fine.

I'm experiencing the samething, I'm trying to print from iMac on printer HP Laserjet 500 m551, and it really takes a very long time stating "sending data to printer", to the extent that printing a 6 pages pdf stops about 5 minutes every two pages. I resetted the settings, restarted both computer and printer, and ensured that no printer driver update.... and still the problem is persisting!! The only way i can print is to upload the file directly to the printer, but ofcoarse it prints the whole file... Please help me fix this
