I updated to Sequoia 15.3 on my macMini and got the alert to contact the developer to update the extension because it will not work in the future. I have updated the driver to the latest 15.0 OS from the HP support site. Most things I print have looked ok; however, there are some things off of the internet that print scrambled and almost look like a Cyrillic font. Can you tell me when or even if this will happen or is there another option (without having to reprogram something)?

Thanks, but they were not there to toggle on. I had to delete everything. Connect the printer manually with IP address and choose Air Print protocol, then it let me select the printer software.  It still is not recognizing the printer but I can print through IP address of the printer.

The same thing just happened to me, I was gifted a Deskjet 2375 printer and was trying to set it up with my macbook sequoia 15.3 (which i just updated) and it simply wont work. Such a disapointment with HP...the printer is new but it wont work because is an older model.

Hi @n2fites

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with an issue after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.3, where you received an alert about needing a developer extension update for your HP printer, and you're noticing strange printouts (like scrambled text or Cyrillic-like characters) when printing certain things, especially from the internet.

Here’s what’s likely happening and what you can do about it:

1. macOS and Printer Extension Compatibility:

  • macOS 15.3 (Sequoia) may be introducing a change in how printer drivers and extensions are handled, causing some drivers (especially older ones) to not be fully compatible. The message you’re seeing about the developer extension update suggests that the current HP driver may no longer be fully supported in the future.
  • HP might need to release an updated version of the driver that is compatible with macOS Sequoia 15.3 and that uses the updated system extension framework introduced by macOS.

2. Scrambled Printouts:

  • The scrambled or distorted printouts that resemble a Cyrillic font could be due to incorrect rendering of fonts or characters when using a driver that’s not fully optimized for Sequoia 15.3.
  • This is likely caused by the driver's inability to properly communicate with macOS's new printing framework or an issue with how fonts are handled in the print jobs.

What You Can Do:Check for an Updated HP Printer Driver for Sequoia 15.3:

  • You’ve mentioned updating to the latest 15.0 driver from HP’s support site, but it’s possible that there is still a more specific update for Sequoia 15.3. Sometimes, drivers are released in stages after new macOS versions, so it’s worth checking back for a Sequoia-specific update.
    • Visit the HP support page again and search for your specific model (HP printer) and macOS Sequoia.
    • If you don’t see a newer driver listed, you could also try the HP Smart app (which may have better compatibility with newer macOS versions).

B. Use macOS Default Printer Driver (AirPrint):

  • AirPrint is Apple’s built-in printing technology, and many HP printers support it natively. If you’re experiencing issues with the HP-specific driver, you can try switching your printer to AirPrint to see if it resolves the scrambled text issue.
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your HP printer, click Options & Supplies, and then choose the AirPrint option instead of the HP-specific driver.
    • AirPrint may not offer the full feature set of the HP drivers but should provide reliable basic printing, especially for web pages or documents that seem to print incorrectly

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

After installing 15.3 on my Mac 24" the computer would not connect to my HP5660 scanner .  I found advice from someone on an Apple support page. Go to Setting, Privacy and Security, Local Network. The HP Device Monitor, HP Scanner 3, and HP Utility were all toggled OFF,  I toggled ON HP Device Monitor, HP Scanner 3, and HP Utility and I can scan again! Didn't have to download non-existent new drivers or buy a new printer. I hope this works for other folks having the same issue.
