Mine wasn't either, but I did make sure the HP Easy Start and HP Device Monitor were toggled on.

Thanks, but they were not there to toggle on. I had to delete everything. Connect the printer manually with IP address and choose Air Print protocol, then it let me select the printer software.  It still is not recognizing the printer but I can print through IP address of the printer.

I followed these instructions to switch to airprint but when I get to the right screen it does not let me switch out of the HP driver to select air print. Thoughts?

Sorry, I've got nothing. I'm still at the same place as I was when I first started the chain. Still gibberish on some website printing. I've also upgraded the OS since the first query, so nothing has changed. I guess I will eventually have to purchase a new printer, as is probably their purpose for not fixing it.
