HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased a second hand Envy Photo 7855 printer and I intend to use Instant Ink. However, when I try to set the printer up it gets stuck on a screen that requests me to insert cartridges and does not allow me to move forward with the setup. How to bypass this screen and finish the setup?

Hi @Blah68,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Photo 7855 printer is stuck on a screen that asks you to insert cartridges and you want to set it up with Instant Ink, here are some steps you can try to bypass this screen and complete the setup.

Make sure you have the correct cartridges: Ensure that you have the right ink cartridges for your printer. Some HP printers require setup cartridges or cartridges that are at least partially filled to complete the initial setup. Check if you have the right cartridges and that they are properly installed.

Power cycle the printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes clear any error messages and allow you to proceed with the setup.

Perform a factory reset: If the above steps don't work, you can try performing a factory reset on your printer. Keep in mind that a factory reset will erase any previously configured settings. To perform a factory reset, follow these steps:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • While holding down the 'Power' button, plug the power cord back into the printer.
  • Keep holding down the 'Power' button for another 10 seconds and then release it.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi: After the factory reset, go through the initial setup process again. Connect your printer to your Wi-Fi network and follow the on-screen instructions. This time, it may not prompt you to insert cartridges immediately, allowing you to continue with the setup process.

Install Instant Ink cartridges: Once you've completed the initial setup without being prompted to insert cartridges, you can proceed to insert your Instant Ink cartridges. These cartridges are specifically designed for use with the Instant Ink service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
