HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer

Trying to set up a new hp printer:  HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e and the K (black ink) cartridge is not communicating properly with the printer.  I have tried every trouble shooting suggestion that hp has.  I requested a call back which was supposed to come in 10 minutes and it has been one hour.  I suspect I have a defective cartridge and just want to get a replacement.  So frustrating!!!!

Hi @SKRCP,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I can understand how frustrating this must be! Here are a few additional steps you might try.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure the black cartridge is properly seated in the correct slot. Sometimes, the cartridge might not be fully clicked into place.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Remove the cartridge and gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and in the printer with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab dipped in distilled water. Let it dry completely before reinserting it.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve communication issues.

Reset Printer:

  • Perform a factory reset on your printer. This can often clear any configuration issues that might be affecting the cartridge communication.

Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Double-check that the cartridge is compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e. Sometimes, using an incorrect or counterfeit cartridge can cause issues.

Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If you have access to another black ink cartridge, try using it to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge or the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
