I would like to set "draft" setting as default print mode on my HP officejet 8600 plus printer. I currently have to go to properties drop down every time to set draft as my printing setting.
Below is a description of how to do this but I believe this might apply to WIN 7? ..... I have WIN 10 and you cannot right click on the 8600 icon in device mgr as it suggests!
Can anyone please help?
1) Go to Control Panel.
2) Select Printers
3) Right click on the 8600
4) Select properties
5) Change the pull down to draft

Hey there! @CTALtd, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!
I understand you would like to set draft mode default on your printer.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
The settings you are trying to print as draft mode seems to valid. As you mentioned that you have to select the drop down every time to print as a draft mode.
Try uninstalling the printer drivers from root level and install the full feature printer software.
In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.
Update the printer software using this link.
Also, the best you can do to get "Draft" mode would be to select Media as Plain Paper Fast Draft, click on Advanced, and choose Draft under Resolution.
Hope this helps!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂
