1. This seems so ridiculous, but when I set the proper date and time, the printer displays a completely different date when I'm done with the settings. Don't think it's operator error, since I've done this on the printer previously. Tried unplugging the power cord but nothing changed.
2. I've had to replace my desktop recently, and have gone from windows 10 to 11. I have the smart app installed in my system and using it can scan. I can't, however, scan from the control panel on the printer/scanner. Any suggestions?

Hi @JaySaltic,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Incorrect Date and Time on the Printer
The issue with the HP OfficeJet 5255 displaying a different date and time than what you have set, despite following the correct procedure, is unusual. It's good that you've already tried unplugging the printer, as this can sometimes reset minor glitches. Since that hasn't worked, here are a few more suggestions:
- Firmware Update: Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. HP regularly releases firmware updates that can resolve unexpected issues. You can check for firmware updates through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Support website, searching for your printer model, and navigating to the "Software and Drivers" section. Click Here
- Reset Printer: To restore the printer to the original network settings:
- Disconnect the power cord from the router.
- Turn off the printer.
- Turn off the mobile device/PC.
- Reconnect the power cord to the router, then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.
- Turn on the printer.
- Turn on the mobile device/PC.
Run the setup wizard to get the printer connected to the new network.
- Remove HP Smart App from your mobile device (if already installed).
- From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
- Touch Network Setup.
- Touch Restore Network Settings. A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored.
- Touch Yes.
- Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.
- Time Zone and DST: Ensure that the time zone is correctly set and, if applicable, Daylight Saving Time adjustments are enabled. Sometimes, these settings can cause the displayed time to differ from the expected time.
- Manual Consultation: Revisit the printer's manual for specific instructions regarding setting the date and time. There might be a step that is easy to overlook.
2. Scanning Issues with Windows 11
Not being able to scan from the printer/scanner's control panel, but being able to scan using the HP Smart app, suggests there might be a communication issue between the printer and your new Windows 11 desktop. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
- Driver Update: Ensure that the printer driver is fully updated for Windows 11. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website. Even if you've installed the HP Smart app, it's crucial to have the correct drivers installed.
- Scan Settings: Check the scan settings on the printer itself. There might be settings that specify the computer to scan to or how scans are initiated from the printer.
- Network Configuration: If your printer is connected via a network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), ensure that both the printer and your desktop are correctly connected to the same network. Misconfigured network settings can sometimes allow for partial connectivity (e.g., printing but not scanning).
- HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP offers a utility called HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows that can diagnose and resolve scanning and printing problems. Download and run this tool to see if it can fix the issue. Click Here
- Reinstall HP Smart: Consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the HP Smart app. Sometimes, reinstalling the software can resolve communication issues that have arisen due to the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Got the correct date and time. It was user error. Three locators on the control screen show and I mistakenly was using the top one and not the middle one. Still working on the inability to scan directly to the PC from printer/scanner control panel. Run the Print & Scan doctor and get notice that a software update is available for my device, but I can't access the software update via the link. Is this because my warranty is expired?
