I'm trying to add this second hand printer. However, I keep getting a message to use the ink that came with it and it won't let me go any farther. I had to buy ink for it! So my question is, How do I add this printer without signing up for a monthly plan and use the ink that I had to buy at Walmart?

Welcome to the HP English Community --
The printer's first owner perhaps had a subscription to the Instant Ink Service that they (the owner) never cancelled.
It's common, in fact - and not ideal, but here we are.
You might best contact Instant Ink Support --
Yes, Instant Ink Supports lives to sell you a subscription AND they are also able to help you make sure the printer is not tied to an old account that is preventing you from using the printer as you like (with NO subscription).
Ask for help to untie the printer and stand firm on what you want.
What?
The subscription is optional and generally beneficial to those who print a lot more than a few pages a month.
