Hi  @PeterK833

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand you're setting up your new HP Envy Photo 7234 All-in-One Printer, and even though the cartridges are installed, the printer continues to display a message indicating that the cartridges appear to be missing. I appreciate the troubleshooting you've already completed.

To help us better understand the situation, could you kindly confirm:

  • Are you using the cartridges that came with the printer or replacement cartridges?
  • What is the exact cartridge error message displayed on the printer screen?
  • Have the orange protective tabs and tape been completely removed from both cartridges?
  • Is this the first time the printer has been powered on and set up?

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

  1. Turn the printer on and open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove both cartridges.
  3. Inspect the copper-colored electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the carriage for any debris or packaging material.
  4. Reinstall each cartridge firmly into its corresponding slot until it clicks into place.
  5. Close the access door and wait for the printer to initialize.
  6. If the message remains, perform a hard reset:
    • Leave the printer powered on.
    • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    • Wait about 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord directly to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
    • Turn the printer on if it does not power on automatically.

If available, kindly check whether the cartridge carriage moves freely from side to side when the access door is opened. Any obstruction inside the printer can sometimes cause cartridge detection issues.
